No. 16 Women’s Golf Sets Up Thrilling Round Three After Solid Second Day
Apr 15, 2025 | Women's Golf
BELLEAIR, Fla. – The No. 16 Texas A&M women's golf team found themselves in the match play picture of the 2025 SEC Championship heading into the final round of stroke play after shooting 3-over 283 Tuesday to move into a tie for seventh at the par-70 Pelican Golf Club.
"We are playing good golf," Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "We weren't our cleanest at the finish, but that doesn't take away from the golf that we are playing. At the end of the day, we moved up the board and that is what we need to continue to do tomorrow. We just need to keep going and tidy things up in a few areas."
The Aggies (+7) were inside the top eight at the end of round two, but were log jammed with six other teams that were separated by three strokes from spots five to 10. Texas A&M is one stroke above No. 2 Arkansas (+8) and Florida (+8) for the final spot. The Maroon & White will be paired up with Arkansas and Mississippi State (+7) in the last round of stroke play.
Texas A&M is looking to advance to match play at SECs for the third consecutive year tomorrow by placing in the top eight at the end of 54 holes of stroke play.
Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio turned in a stellar round for the Aggies in their pursuit of match play. The sophomore carded a 2-under 68 that vaulted her into a tie for 13th. Mia Nixon produced the next best scorecard for Texas A&M at even par. Nixon held onto a share of 49th heading into Wednesday.
Sky Sudberry shot 2-over and was tied for 19th along side freshman Vanessa Borovilos. The pair both birdied No. 17 to get back a couple of strokes for the team prior to the end of the round. Kynadie Adams finished 36 holes in 75th.
