MEET PREVIEW: Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE – The Texas A&M Track & Field team continues its road stint as it travels to James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track for the Florida Relays with the meet running April 4-5.
Entering the third week of outdoor competition, the Aggies stand out among their peers as both teams rank in the top-three nationally. At the first outdoor checkpoint, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association has the men's program at the top of the standings, while the women are close behind in third.
Last Time Out
The Maroon & White showed out in the second week of the outdoor season, returning to Aggieland with a new school record, six event wins and twelve updates to the Texas A&M Track all-time list across both the Raleigh Relays and the Battle on the Bayou.
Cooper Cawthra headlined the group in Raleigh, setting the new standard at the top of the men's 1,500m record books after crossing the line in 3:36.79. Luca Santorum also secured No. 2 all-time in the event with a mark of 3:39.58, while Ondrej Gajdos now ranks 11th in history after a time of 3:44.63. Jack Johnston rounded out the men's all-time marks after running the second-fastest time in school history in the 10,000m with a time of 28:47.17. The women in North Carolina also tackled the history books, with Emma Little taking over third in the 3,000m steeplechase (10:16.08), Megan Roberts snatched third in the 10,000m (33:31.12) and Elise Smoot captured 12th in the 1,500m (4:26.44).
The team in Baton Rouge secured six titles on the weekend, with two coming In the field and four on the track. The hurdle group set the standard, as Bryce McCray won the first event of the meet in the 400m hurdles (50.61), while Jaiya Covington in the 100m hurdles (12.86) and Ja'Qualon Scott in the 110m hurdles (13.22) also topped their events. The women's 4x100m relay team captured the last win on the oval (43.44), while Khybah Dawson and Aleksandr Solovev won the long jump (7.62m/25-0) and pole vault (5.40m/17-8.5), respectively.
The Field
A&M will compete against a stacked field in Gainesville, as 28 teams travel for the meet, nine of which are ranked in the top-25 nationally on the women's side, while six are ranked on the men's.
Top-Ranked Aggies
The women carry six top-five ranks into the third week of competition, all of which come on the track. Camryn Dickson in the 100m (11.06), Jaiya Covington in the 100m hurdles (12.86) and the women's 4x100m relay team (43.43) all rank third in the country. Dickson and Kennady Fontenot are fourth in the 200m (22.93) and 3,000m steeplechase (10:08.47), respectively, while the Aggies second-fastest time in the 4x100m of 43.44 also ranks fifth.
The men also have six athletes who rank in the top-five nationally in their respective events. The 400m group stands out for the Maroon & White, as they hold the No. 2, 4 and 5 spots through Antonie Nortje (45.41), Kimar Farquharson (45.78) and Hossam Eddine Hatib (45.82), respectively. Remaining dominant on the track, Victor Kibiego ranks fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase (8:39.45), while both Cawthra in the 1,500m (3:36.79) and McCray in the 400m hurdles (50.61) rank fifth nationally.
