BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M was represented by a record-breaking 85 student-athletes on the 2024-25 Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Wednesday.
The previous record was 75 set in both the 2022-23 and 2019-20 Winter honor rolls. The Aggies improved by 14 selections from last year's mark of 71.
"I want to congratulate our student-athletes that were named to this year's winter honor roll," Director of Athletics Trev Alberts said. "As collegiate athletics continues to evolve, academics remains a top priority for our department and staff. These student-athletes achieved record-breaking excellence in the classroom, and I am proud of everyone involved in this achievement. Our goal is to graduate our student-athletes and develop well-rounded individuals. This is great progress towards that objective."
Swimming & Diving (41) and equestrian (34) led the way with the most selections, while women's basketball (8) and men's basketball (2) added 10 combined honorees to the total.
"The Texas A&M athletics department is tremendously proud of those who made the winter SEC academic honor roll," Executive Associate Athletics Director of Academics and Student-Athlete Engagement Dr. Dan Childs said. "The fall term was one of the best semesters academically for Texas A&M athletics, as a record number of student-athletes finished with a GPA above 3.0. One of our core values is excellence, and it is wonderful to see our student-athletes striving for excellence not only in the field of play but in the classroom as well. We're fortunate to have an athletics department that is committed to providing the necessary academic and career, and personal development resources for our students to be successful. Congrats to all the student-athletes who achieved the winter SEC academic honor roll; it is a tremendous accomplishment."
The following criteria was followed:
(1) A student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 or above for either the preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters) or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution.

(3) Student-athletes eligible for the Honor Roll include those receiving an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (i.e., letter winner), and non-scholarship student-athletes who have been on a varsity team for two seasons.
(4) Prior to being nominated, a student-athlete must have successfully completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution.
