GREEN BAY – Texas A&M defensive linemen Nic Scourton and Shemar Turner were selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft Friday evening. Scourton was taken with the 51st overall pick by the Carolina Panthers and Turner went to the Chicago Bears with the 62nd pick.
Scourton impressed in his lone season in Aggieland, starting all 12 regular season games and finishing the year ranking third in the SEC with 14.0 tackles for loss, posting at least 1.0 TFL in eight games. He helped the Maroon & White rank among the top-25 as a team with 92.0 tackles for loss on the season. The Bryan, Texas, native was a 2024 Lott IMPACT Trophy finalist as well as a semifinalist for the Lombardi Trophy and Bednarik Award. He also earned Walter Camp All-America Second Team and All-SEC First Team honors.
"I am incredibly excited for Nic and the Panthers," head coach Mike Elko said. "Nic's raw talent was obvious when I first recruited him at Bryan High School. When I finally got the opportunity to coach him, Nic quickly proved himself to be a very intelligent football player that gives maximum effort on every play. He is a testament to what hard work and dedication can do. I once told Aggieland that Nic is everything you want an Aggie to be. Panthers fans can rest assured that Nic is everything you want a Panther to be."
Scourton added a team-best 5.0 sacks as a junior, which ranked in the top-25 in the SEC. He filled out the stat sheet in the win over Arkansas with a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry, while all four of his tackles were for a total of 16 yards lost and one of his 2.0 sacks was a strip sack late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Prior to his time at A&M, Scourton registered 72 tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss, 12.0 sacks and three forced fumbles in two seasons at Purdue. He led the Big Ten and ranked eighth in the nation with 10.0 sacks, while totaling 50 tackles, 15.0 for loss, and one forced fumble to earn Second Team All-Big Ten recognition in 2023.
Turner started all 12 regular season games in his final collegiate season. He made 36 tackles on the year and was top-five on the team with 5.5 tackles for loss, adding 2.0 sacks. The DeSoto, Texas, native made seven tackles in the season-opener against Notre Dame and closed out the year with six takedowns against Texas. He also added six tackles, including a solo sack for a 9-yard loss in the win at Mississippi State.
"I have known Shemar probably longer than any other player on the roster," Elko said. "Since my days of recruiting him out of DeSoto High School, I've watched him grow as a man and a football player. Shemar is a big, physical player with tremendous athleticism. He started 35 games here at Texas A&M and was a force to be reckoned with. He is powerful and disruptive, and the Bears are getting a great player with unlimited potential."
Through his four years in Aggieland, Turner played in 43 games, making 35 starts. He racked up 115 tackles, 22.5 for loss and 10.0 sacks. He was named to the 2023 All-SEC Second Team after finishing top-three on the team and top-20 in the league with 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks. Turner earned his degree in agricultural leadership and development from Texas A&M in December 2024.
