Aggies out to Dominant Start at “Mo” Morial Invitational

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 20 Texas A&M women's golf team jumped out to a 15-shot lead on the field after two rounds Monday at the "Mo" Morial Invitational at Traditions Club.
"You want to play well in front of your fans," Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "This wind makes this course incredibly hard to play, so to have this lead after two rounds is important. This was a great start for us, and we will address some things tonight. We are excited to go out and fight for something tomorrow."
The Aggies shot 23-over 592 for the day after 36 holes of action. They were up on ACU (+38) and Northern Colorado (+42) in the top three. There was a 113-stroke difference between them and 16th place Prairie View A&M (+140).
Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio was tied for first with Yvonne Chamness of Texas State. The pair was ahead of the next closest golfer by three strokes. Fernández García-Poggio shot a 2-over 74 in the first round but turned around and went 2-under 70 to close out the day. She is seeking her second collegiate victory of the season.
Vanessa Borovilos was tied for third at 3-over 147 after two rounds. The freshman is vying for her second tournament title of the season as well. Mia Nixon was the third Aggie in the top 10 after Monday's action. Nixon was 10-over 154 and held onto a share of ninth.
Kynadie Adams and Sky Sudberry rounded out the lineup tied for 23rd and 34th, respectively. Lauren Nguyen, competing as an individual, was knotted up with a piece of 28th.
