Friday's series opener marks the 63rd meeting all-time between the Aggies (25-19, 8-13) and Tigers (37-9, 14-7). Despite splitting the last 10 meetings, the Maroon & White lead the series 32-29-1. The weekend set marks the Aggies' fourth against a Top 2 opponent this season.
Texas A&M is coming off its ninth straight midweek win after defeating Lamar 13-6 Tuesday night at Blue Bell Park. Ben Royo led the offensive charge as the junior went 2-for-3 with two homers and a career-high eight RBI. Over the last four games, Royo is 8-for-13 (.615) at the dish.
Caden Sorrell followed with a perfect 3-for-3 performance to go along with a pair of homers and three RBI. The sophomore reached safely in all five at-bats on the night. Since making his season debut on March 29, Sorrell is slashing .377/.494/.870 to go along with a triple, four doubles, nine homers and 24 RBI.
On the mound, the Aggies will send its usual trio of Ryan Prager, Justin Lamkin and Myles Patton. The trio has started every weekend for the Maroon & White, combining for a 4.25 ERA and 187 strikeouts in 182 innings of work.
Lamkin leads the group with a 3.92 ERA, 69 strikeouts and six quality starts. The junior ranks sixth among the league in walks allowed per nine (1.87), seventh in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.93), 10th in WHIP (1.18) and 10th in strikeouts. Patton ranks second in the SEC in walks allowed per nine (1.87) and sits sixth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.33).
As a staff, the Maroon & White rank second nationally in walks allowed per nine (2.88), fourth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.29), and 11th in WHIP (1.26).
PROMOTIONS AT THE BALLPARK
FRIDAY
The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a FREE Maroon Out t-shirt and the fourth set of Texas A&M baseball trading cards. Following the series opener, there will be a postgame fireworks show.
SUNDAY (STAR WARS DAY)
The first 80 kids 12-and-under are able to join the Aggie starters on the field for the national anthem prior to Saturday's finale. To join the team on the field, kids 12-and-under should meet at Guest Services 30 minutes prior to first pitch. Anthem Buddies opportunity is limited and subject to change. There will also be FREE face painting on the concourse along the first base side throughout the end of the first inning.
Following the game, kids 12-and-under will have the opportunity to run the bases at Blue Bell Park.
