BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio, Vanessa Borovilos and Mia Nixon earned All-SEC recognition for their play and contributions during the 2024-25 campaign, the league announced Friday.
Fernández García-Poggio was voted to the All-SEC First Team by the conference coaches for the first time in her career. She was tabbed as an All-SEC Second Teamer last season. The sophomore leads the Aggies with a 71.2 stroke average and won two individual titles that resulted in a pair of SEC Golfer of the Week honors. The Spaniard's two victories were tied for the most by any golfer in the league this season.
Borovilos was selected to the All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Freshman Team for her stellar rookie year. The Canadian has logged a 72.0 stroke average so far this year with a historic win at the Chevron Collegiate where she shot 15-under 201 through 54 holes. Borovilos is the No. 3 ranked freshman on the Scoreboard Individual Ranking in the conference and earned two SEC Freshman of the Week nods with one golfer of the week recognition.
Nixon was named to the All-SEC Community Service Team for the first time in her career and is one of the most involved student-athletes in the Brazos Valley. Her service has spanned opportunities such as the Revved Up to Read program that promotes literacy for children of Aggieland and the Aggies CAN initiative that collects food for families in the area.
Nixon is a member of the 2024-25 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has been involved with FACE Mental Health at Texas A&M. The mission of F.A.C.E. Mental Health is to generate awareness, develop a sense of community, provide education, and advocate for the variety of mental health concerns and challenges student-athletes experience.
The Aggies are days away from to the NCAA Lubbock Regional where they will compete for their fourth straight trip to the NCAA Championships. The regional is scheduled for 54 holes May 5-7 at The Rawls Course. Texas A&M will need to finish within the top five of the 12-team field in order to advance to NCAAs.
