Aug 01, 2025 | Football
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Texas A&M kicker Randy Bond was named to the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Preseason Watch List, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Friday. The Lou Groza Award is given annually to the nation's best place-kicker.
Bond, a Lou Groza Award semifinalist last season, ranked 15th in the nation and fifth in the SEC with 20 made field goals, while his 83.3 field goal percentage was fourth-best in the SEC with 20 or more attempts. The Plano, Texas, native made multiple field goals in seven games, including four against Bowling Green to match his career high. He was one of three SEC kickers to make multiple 50-plus yard field goals in a game after he connected on a 52-yarder and a career-long 55-yard field goal against South Carolina. Bond split the uprights in all 46 PAT attempts and finished the season with 106 points.
Accomplishments are tabulated throughout the season, and the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will announce its 20 semifinalists Tuesday, Nov. 18. From this list, a panel of more than 100 FBS head coaches, sports information directors, media members, former Groza finalists and current NFL kickers selects the top three finalists for the award, announced Tuesday, Nov. 25. That same group then selects the national winner, who will be announced Friday, Dec. 12 during the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
The 34th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl, recognizes the three finalists during a celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with a gala awards banquet Dec. 8 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
