12thMan.com chatted with Savannah Hutchins, an electric forward from Moorpark, California. The thrilling attacker arrived in Aggieland after a season at North Carolina State.
What excites you the most about joining Texas A&M and playing in front of the 12th Man at Ellis Field?
What excites me the most about playing for Texas A&M is the atmosphere and the people who will be watching. Knowing it’s a high-level school in the SEC, I understand that we will be getting big opportunities and a lot of exposure. Ultimately, for anyone who wants to go pro, this is a place that can make that happen. Texas A&M has had players on national teams and in the professional leagues and that kind of history is really exciting.
How was the transition from NC State to Texas A&M been for you, both on and off the field?
The transition has actually been really smooth. From the moment I arrived, I could tell the environment was unmatched. This team took me in right away, and it’s honestly the sweetest group of girls and coaches. The coaches have been amazing. They made me feel welcome and supported, which has made the adjustment even easier.

What’s the been the kind of culture change you’ve gone through coming to Texas A&M?
It was definitely a bit of a culture shock, but I loved how everyone here is just so kind and so welcoming. The ‘howdy’ thing was definitely crazy. It’s a really awesome kind of trending culture they have here. Obviously I think I need to invest in come cowboy boots if I’m going to be going out anywhere dressing up.
What stood out to you about Texas A&M’s soccer program that made it the right fit for you?
One of the biggest things that stood out to me was the coaching staff. On my visit, the coaches made me feel like I could talk to them about anything. They were so open and easy to communicate with, which made me feel comfortable right away. Beyond that, the overall culture at Texas A&M is unmatched – the energy, the friendliness and the way everyone supports each other.

Coach G mentioned your pace and goal-scoring ability how would you describe your style of play and what do you hope to bring to the Aggie offense?
I would describe my style of play as skillful and athletic. I like to put pressure on defensive lines by making runs in behind, and I aim to create goal-scoring opportunities whether by setting up crosses or finishing chances myself.
With Texas A&M looking to strengthen its offensive presence, how do you see yourself fitting into the system?
I see myself fitting in by working as hard as I can to create as many scoring opportunities as possible, whether by assisting or finishing chances. I want to contribute in any way that helps the team succeed and I hope to make a big impact.
What has been the biggest adjustment in your game since arriving in College Station?
One of the biggest adjustments for me has been playing more as a winger. It’s been an amazing experience, but I’ve had to adapt to the system here. I’ve also learned a lot about pressing, especially high pressing. We have a really strong structured press and I’ve ha to focus on learning how to executive it effectively.

You’ve played at high levels, including with Canada Soccer’s U17 squad. How has that international experience shaped you as a player?
Playing at the international level helped me grow as a player by exposing me to some of the best competition. The experience taught me a lot about preparation – things like nutrition, hydration testing and maintaining a professional mindset. Overall, it made me stronger and more disciplined, both physically and mentally.
Your youth career with Slammers HB Koge was highly successful. What lessons from that time have stuck with you?
Playing for Slammers was an incredible experience. Even though it was a two-hour drive, I was willing to make that sacrifice to be part of the best club possible for my development. That experience helped me grow as a player and I had the opportunity to compete alongside some of the highest-level athletes, which really pushed me to improve.

What was it like competing in the ACC as a freshman and how do you think that experience will help you in the SEC?
Competing in the ACC was an amazing experience. Going from watching college soccer to actually playing against some of the best teams in the country was incredible. That experience helped prepare me for the SEC because I’ve already faced top-level competition. I know what it takes to compete at this level, and I’m excited to bring that experience to Texas A&M.
What personal and team goals have you set for the season?
I have big personal goals. I want to take my soccer career as far as possible, and I’m aiming for achievements like sophomore player of the year and other accolades. I want to be a game-changer by scoring, assisting, or making an impact in any way I can. As a team, our goal is to make it all the way to the NCAA Championship. I truly believe we have the talent and chemistry to do it.

How do you feel about getting the chance to play in front of the Texas A&M fans at Ellis Field?
It feels amazing. When you’re out there, you feel like people are looking up to you, especially the little kids watching from the stands. It’s really special to be in that position and I love the idea of being a role model for young players. Getting to play in front of such passionate fans makes the experience even more exciting.
What’s one thing you want Aggie fans to know about you as both a player and a person?
I want Aggie fans to know that I’m a hardworking player who has a strong drive to win. Even if I’m not getting a lot of chances on the field, I’ll always find a way to make an impact whether by creating opportunities, pressing or doing something that stands out in the game. I want to help this team succeed in any way I can.
