BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M soccer team continues its season-opening, four-game home stand when the Aggies host the Texas State Bobcats for Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. match at Ellis Field.
The Maroon & White claimed a 1-0 victory over Lamar Sunday, improving to 1-0-1 on the season.
Through the opening weekend, Texas A&M saw two of its newcomers make immediate impacts with goals. Leah Diaz opened her scoring just four minutes into the match against Baylor, capitalizing on a beautifully played cross from Kaylee Noble. Trinity Buchanan stepped up in the clutch, punching in the winning goal in the 87th minute against Lamar with a clever flick over the goalkeeper.
Alongside the offensive spark from Diaz and Buchanan, the Maroon & White's back line anchored by Bella Yakel, Riley Cooks, Hattie Peterson, and Mia Scranton limited opponents to just a handful of quality looks in the first two matches, highlighted by a shutout against the Cardinals.
Erica Defferding and Sydney Fuller each have one start in goal for Texas A&M with Defferding recording her 11th career clean sheet in the blanking against Lamar.
The Aggies own a 4-0-0 edge in the all-time series, outscoring the Bobcats 21-2. This marks just the second time the teams are meeting in the regular season. The last matchup came in March of the elongated 2020-21 campaign with the Aggies winning 3-0 on goals by Barbara Olivieri, Taylor Pounds and Kendall Bates. Texas A&M has dispatched of Texas State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on three occasions, all at Ellis Field. The string includes victories in 2001 (3-0), 2004 (10-0) and 2008 (5-2). The 2004 triumph included four goals in the first 11 minutes of action.
The Bobcats are starting the season 2-0 with commanding wins against Our Lady of the Lake (9-1) and Incarnate Word (5-0). Katrin Agustsdottir Is the Bobcats leading scorer this season with seven points on three goals and one assist. Helen Alormenu and Sadie Guzman have two goals apiece.
The Aggies have six regular season matches against Lone Star State opposition for just the third time in school annals and the first time since 2002. Texas A&M opened the season against Baylor (T, 2-2) and Lamar (W, 1-0). They have home matches remaining against Texas State and Texas (10/2).
