BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women's tennis team will be one of four programs hosting ITA Sectional Championships in November.
Mitchell Tennis Center serves as site of the ITA Central Sectional Championship slated for Nov. 6-9. The Central Sectional includes players from the Central, Midwest and Texas Regions.
The ITA Sectional Championships are the last chance for the top players from across the country to qualify for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships slated for Nov. 18-23 in Orlando, Florida. The other sectional sites include LSU, North Carolina and Washington.
The sectional championship includes singles and doubles actions. A field of 32 players will battle for six spots in the NCAA Championships bracket with all four semifinalists earning a spot along with two quarterfinal playoff winners. Sixteen doubles tandems will play for three entries to the NCAA Championships with both finalists and the third-place squad earning an invite.
Last season, Nicole Khirin and Daria Smetannikov punched tickets to the NCAA Championships with their performances at the ITA Central Sectional Championship in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Players also have opportunities to earn NCAA Championships spots at the ITA All-American (Sept. 20-28) in Cary, North Carolina, ITA Texas Regional Championships (Oct. 9-14) in Fort Worth and the ITA Masters (Nov. 6-9) in San Diego.
