No. 10 Aggies Sweep No. 21 Utah for Second Ranked Win

SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 10 Texas A&M volleyball team swept No. 21 Utah for its second ranked win of the year Thursday evening at the Jon M. Huntsman Center, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-18).
The Aggies (4-0) ended Utah's (3-1) undefeated run, as they extended their winning streak to four with a dominant showing behind setter Maddie Waak's standout performance. The senior recorded 43 assists in the three-set match, while tacking on a career-high four service aces in the win.
Texas A&M came out of the gates on fire, racing out to 9-3 advantage which forced Utah to use its first timeout of the match. The Maroon & White continued to settle into the match with a balanced streak of scoring from Ifenna Cos-Okpalla's three early blocks and Logan Lednicky's four kills, as they led at the midway point (15-10). The Utes mounted a comeback (17-15), but head coach Jamie Morrison gathered his squad with a called break and pushed on to take the opening set, 25-19.
In similar fashion to the opener, it was the Aggies who pulled out to an early advantage as Utah huddled up (9-4). The Utes once again pushed back, however Emily Hellmuth held the charge for the Maroon & White ripping off seven kills in the set to tie the frame late at 17. Utah responded creating a two-point gap (21-19) which was answered by coach Morrison who once again refocused his squad, as they went on a 6-2 run capped off by a kill from Lednicky to take the set (25-23) and extend their advantage in the match, 2-0.
The third frame saw back-and-forth volleyball to start with the teams being knotted on six occasions on their way to 8-8. The Aggies were the team to forge some separation, pulling away on a 11-5 streak courtesy of eight kills, one block, one ace and a Utah error (19-13). The Utes battled back to within two (20-18), however Waak was the difference in the clutch registering three-straight aces and assisting Lednicky's match-winning kill (25-18).
