Sep 08, 2025 | Volleyball
DALLAS – The No. 8 Texas A&M volleyball team heads north to face a pair of top 15 ranked opponents in No. 10 SMU and No. 15 TCU Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
The Aggies earned their highest national ranking in program history, landing at No. 8 in the AVCA poll after extending their winning streak to five as they secured a pair of wins in the state of Utah. They opened the week at the home of the then-No. 21 Utes, sweeping the match in dominant fashion and claiming their second ranked win of the year. The Maroon & White followed that up the following day at Utah State, coming back from an early deficit to win the match, 3-1.
Texas A&M's Maddie Waak was the standout of the week, as the setter dished 100 assists through seven sets of work, averaging 14.29 per frame. Her distribution was highlighted in the match versus Utah State, as the Maroon & White hit .415 percent a unit which was a program record in a four-set match.
The Aggie pins including Logan Lednicky, Emily Hellmuth and Kyndal Stowers had another productive showing this week, as the group registered 84 kills over the two matches. Lednicky paced the group with 32, while Hellmuth (30) and Stowers followed behind (22).
The dynamic middle blocker duo of Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Morgan Perkins made their presence felt in the beehive state, as Cos-Okpalla recorded her first double-digit kill (11) outing of the year versus Utah State while adding seven blocks in the match, while Perkins hit .647 percent over the two matches with 13 kills.
The Matchups
Texas A&M and SMU meet in the newly introduced Showdown at the Net, matching up programs for an SEC versus ACC challenge. Both programs enter the match ranked in the top-10 nationally with unblemished 5-0 records. SMU has had a strong start at home, boasting a 3-0 record, while Texas A&M matches that with its road ledger after a pair of wins in Utah and a win over Rice in Houston.
The Maroon & White face SMU for only the second time in program history and first during the regular season. The first singular fixture between the teams came in the 2016 season, as they met in the first round of the NCAA Tournament where the Mustangs secured a 3-0 win.
The following day the Aggies take on TCU at Schollmaier Arena for only the third meeting between the programs during the regular season. Each team has a road win on their records, as Texas A&M won a 3-1 contest in Fort Worth during the 2022 campaign, while the Horned Frogs secured a 3-1 win of their own in Reed Arena the following year.
Both programs have been tested versus nationally ranked opponents, as the Aggies are 2-0 versus then-No. 11 Minnesota (3-1) and then-No. 21 Utah (3-0). TCU on the other hand is 3-1 on the season, all versus ranked opposition, their fixtures have included then-No. 3 Pitt (1-3), then-No. 5 Penn State (3-2) and a pair versus then-No. 19 UCLA (3-0, 3-1).
Milestone Tracker
Logan Lednicky is seven kills from reaching 1,300 for her career, when she reaches that mark, she would become only the 12th Aggie to do so in program history and second during the 25-point rally scoring era.
Ifenna Cos-Okpalla moved up to No. 9 in career blocks in Texas A&M history with 394 after recording seven versus Utah State. She now sits just six shy of reaching 400 total blocks.
