Texas A&M Adds Romanian Standout to Roster

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women's tennis team bolstered its squad with the addition of Ilinca Amariei, head coach Mark Weaver announced Friday.

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women's tennis team bolstered its squad with the addition of Ilinca Amariei, head coach Mark Weaver announced Friday.
 
"We are delighted to announce Ilinca will be joining our team," Weaver said. "It was great work by Coach (James) Wilson in the recruiting process to bring in someone as talented and as accomplished as Ilinca. This will immediately strengthen our lineup in both singles and doubles. I know how very excited Ilinca is to join the Texas A&M women's tennis team."
 
Amariei boasts a career-best WTA ranking of 317 in singles and 346 in doubles. She owns eight ITF singles titles and nine ITF doubles crowns.
 
The Ia?i, Romania, native claimed two ITF singles titles in 2025, including W15 Cluj Napoca and W15 Bucharest, along with a doubles win at W35 Bol.
 
Amariei's high-water marks for trophies was three singles wins in 2023 and four doubles titles in 2022.
 
"I'm very excited about new experiences and challenges," Amariei said. "I'm really looking forward to being a part of the Texas A&M tennis team. I'm ready to work hard, grow together and create big things as a team. Gig 'em!"
