LAS VEGAS – The Texas A&M men's golf team finished tied for eighth place at the talent-laden Southern Highlands Collegiate.

The Aggies posted an 8-over 296 in their final loop around the par-72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club. They finished at 12-over 876, deadlocked with New Mexico for eighth place. Virginia won the tournament at 15-under 849.

Aaron Pounds was the top A&M finisher on the leaderboard, tied for 18th. He finished the tournament at 1-over 217 following Tuesday's 1-over 73 round.

Wheaton Ennis was the Aggies' top performer Tuesday. He fired an even 72 and finished the tournament tied for 30th place at 3-over 216.
Jaime Montojo and Kris Kuvaas finished at 37th and 46th place, respectively.
The Aggies return to action Monday when they travel to Lafayette for the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club.

"It's not the day we wanted, for sure. We made some uncharacteristic mistakes early and never got any momentum during the round,. We didn't capitalize often enough from good positions.
"I like our fight and effort. I never question that part with this group. We need to continue to improve and develop the confidence. We'll need to be our best in the weeks to come."
