MLB Draft Alert: Cubs Take Sorrell in 2nd Round

PHILADELPHIA - Texas A&M outfielder Caden Sorrell was selected 62nd overall by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday from the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

In his final season in Aggieland, Sorrell started 55 of 56 games he appeared in and slashed .341/.434/.743 to go along with a team-best 20 doubles, 23 home runs, 76 RBI and 11 stolen bases. The junior recorded 23 multi-hit performances and led the team with 21 multi-RBI games and five multi-homer performances. His power production culminated with him becoming the first Aggie since 1999 to record at least 20 doubles and 20 home runs in a season.

During his three-year career at Texas A&M, Sorrell started in 129 of the 144 games he played in, helping lead the Aggies to the postseason during the 2024 and 2026 seasons. The lefty slugger owns a career batting average of .316 and OPS of 1.094 with 86 extra-base hits and 20 stolen bases.

The Highland Village, Texas, native inked himself into Texas A&M record books following his junior campaign, ranking sixth all-time with 46 home runs and 10th with 151 RBI. He earned unanimous All-American honors and was named to the All-SEC First Team and All-SEC Defensive Team at the conclusion of the 2026 season.
