Singh’s U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship Run Ends in Semifinals

DURHAM, N.C. – Texas A&M’s Athena Singh fell 1UP in the semifinals of the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship Friday to Clairey Lin at the Old Chatham Golf Club.

Singh went down three holes with just four remaining in the match and then went on to win two of the next three to get make it to No. 18. However, Singh was unable to extend the match, tying No. 18 and ending her run at the championship.

In the quarterfinals, Singh took down Macie Rasmussen with a dominant 5&4 showing. The incoming freshman never trailed in the bout and won four of the last seven holes to clinch the semifinal berth. Prior to that, Singh turned in a pair of 1UP triumphs against Shauna Liu and Zoe Cusack and opened match play with a 3&1 win versus Jie-En Lin.

Singh finished tied for 40th during the 36 holes of stroke play to determine the top 64 for match play. The Aggie was three shots over par with three holes remaining in the final round but then holed three straight birdies to secure her spot in match play at even-par 144.

The Morehead, Kentucky, native is ranked No. 526 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and defeated three top-150 amateurs en route to the semifinals.

Singh is ranked No. 18 in the 2026 class on the AJGA Rankings. She competed at the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open where she finished tied for 124th and shot 10-over 152 at the prestigious major.

Singh qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open after finishing runner up at the Briar Ridge Country Club on May 11 when she shot a 3-over 147 and won a playoff for the final advancing spot. The incoming freshman also logged two other runner-up outings this summer at the Kentucky Girls’ Junior Amateur and Women’s Western Junior Championship.

Singh was named 2025 Kentucky Miss Golf by the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association and is a three-time champion of the Kentucky PGA Junior Amateur (2022, 2023, 2025). Singh earned runner-up honors at the 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship.
