Good morning… the pads are poppin’ in Aggieland! Aggie football hit full contact for the first time Wednesday, and QB1 stepped to the mic right after. Soccer beat everyone to the punch, opening the season with a 2-1 win at Rice for Bobby Shuttleworth’s first as a head coach.

It’s Thursday, August 13 — here’s what you need to know to start your day.

The Big 3

1
First pads, and QB1 speaks: A week into camp, the Aggies hit full pads for the first time Wednesday, and quarterback Marcel Reed met the media after. On growing into the captain’s role before the opener: “You can always grow being a leader and making sure that the team respects you and understands that your voice carries,” Reed said. Link

Softball reels in a top-5 transfer class: Texas A&M’s seven-player transfer haul landed a consensus top-five national ranking, No. 4 by Softball America and No. 5 by D1 Softball. It adds six seniors or graduates across every position group, four of them NCAA postseason players a year ago and two 2026 Women’s College World Series participants. They join a team that returns first-team All-American Mya Perez off a 38-19 season and a No. 15 national seed. Link

The Shuttleworth era opens with a win: The Aggies opened the 2026-27 year Wednesday night with a 2-1 win at Rice. Trinity Buchanan scored both goals for her second career brace, and freshman keeper Makenna August made seven saves to seal it. Sunday’s trip to Baylor is next. Link
