COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M football’s Marcel Reed has been named to the watch list for the 2026 Davey O’Brien Award, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced on Thursday. Reed was one of three finalists for the 2025 award.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award.
This is the fourth preseason honor for Reed, adding to the growing list of preseason accolades that includes the Maxwell, Walter Camp and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch lists.
Reed, who was named a team captain for the 2026 season, enters his senior campaign having thrown for 5,407 yards with 41 career passing touchdowns. He has completed 62% of his passes and is averaging 200.3 yards per game through the air. On the ground, Reed has 1,085 career rushing yards to go along with 14 scores. He has averaged 40.2 yards per game on the ground throughout his career.
He enters the 2026 season as one of eight returning FBS quarterbacks to amass 5,000+ career passing yards and 1,000+ rushing yards. Reed is also in elite company as one of just nine returning QBs at the FBS level to have passed for over 40 touchdowns while also rushing for more than 14 touchdowns.
In 27 career games, 21 starts, Reed has recorded 300+ yards of total offense nine times, including a career-high 452 yards against South Carolina last season. He has accounted for multiple touchdowns in 17 games. Including a career-best four scores in five different games. He has thrown for at least two touchdowns in 15 of his 27 career games, with a career-high four against UTSA in 2025. His career mark for rushing scores in a game is three, which he did against LSU in 2024. He has eclipsed the 300-yard passing mark three times in his career and has surpassed 400 yards once, when he threw for a career-best 439 yards against South Carolina in 2025.
