PHILADELPHIA – Texas A&M wide receiver Aaron Gregory was named to the preseason watch list for the ninth annual Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday. The award is presented annually to the outstanding freshman player in college football.
A consensus four-star prospect by ESPN.com, 247Sports.com and Rivals/On3.com, Gregory was ranked the nation's No. 84 overall prospect by 247Sports.com and No. 95 by Rivals/On3.com. The Augusta, Ga., native was also rated the No. 10, No. 11 and No. 13 wide receiver nationally by 247Sports.com, ESPN.com and Rivals/On3.com, respectively, and the No. 9, No. 10 and No. 12 prospect in the state of Georgia by the same three outlets. He was also slotted at No. 75 on ESPN.com's top 300 list.
Before arriving in Aggieland, he enjoyed a decorated prep career at Douglas County High School helping the program to a 33-8 record over three seasons that included back-to-back state semifinal runs as a sophomore and junior, and a quarterfinal appearance as a senior. For his career, he hauled in 163 receptions for 2,930 yards (18.0 average) and 20 touchdowns, a total that set the Douglas County school record for career receiving yards.
He was a three-time all-state selection and a two-time Georgia 6A first-team and 6A Region 2 first-team honoree, and he was also tabbed to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Super 11 team. He capped his prep career as a two-time Navy All-American, an Under Armour All-American and a Polynesian Bowl All-American, and was a finalist for the Navy All-American Bowl Offensive Player of the Year.
Gregory is one of 37 FBS players selected to the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award watch list. Fourteen semifinalists will be announced Wednesday, Nov. 4, before five finalists are unveiled on Saturday, Dec. 2. The winner will be revealed Monday, Dec. 28, and the award will be formally presented at the 90th Maxwell Awards ceremony on March 13, 2027, in Atlanta.
