Aggies Soar Past Air Force in 2-1 Victory

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M soccer secured its second consecutive victory, a 2-1 win against Air Force Thursday evening at Ellis Field.

For the match, the Aggies (3-2-0) had a 23-16 edge in shots, with 11 coming on frame. They also had the corner advantage, 10-8. Ireland Churchill and Finley Lacher both found the back of the net on the night.

The Aggies broke the deadlock when Churchill delivered a pass to Diaz, who calmly set up Lacher, placing her strike past the Air Force keeper.

Texas A&M doubled their lead when Churchill was fouled in the box, and her penalty kick found the back of the net.

The Maroon & White battled through the first half, heading into the break with a 2-0 lead. The Aggies outshot the Falcons 12-8 in the opening half with an 8-4 margin in shots-on-goal. Makenna August was vital at the beginning of the half, making four saves to keep Air Force from taking an early lead.

Air Force (3-1-0) got one back, as Kendall Rippley was fouled in the box, and Annika Jost made no mistake from the spot.

The Falcons’ keeper Sydney Nelms made nine important saves to keep the difference at one goal.

I think we had a bunch of chances to go up 3-0...I thought we got away from doing the things that were getting us in good spots and making us dangerous. We've got to have these experiences to grow as a team. We're a young team. We have a lot of young players on the field, so I think experiences like tonight will make us better in the long run. But we've got to learn from those experiences and understand what are the things that we're doing that are giving us success right now, and what are the things that we're doing that are causing problems for ourselves. We need to be more consistent in doing the good things than the bad things.

I think we were a little bit shaky, just kind of kicking it out, like not very subtle. But then once we started passing around, moving for each other, giving each other options, we started really getting a rhythm and that's what led up to the goal...I think this is a great build for our team, especially two wins at home.

I think we have really good team chemistry. I think this helps our confidence and it's a really good building block that we can build on as a team and just keep moving forward. I definitely think we did a really good job in moments of playing together and runs off the ball. Consistently we can do that more, but I think it's a good start we had this game.
