NEW YORK – Mary Stoiana, the 2024 ITA National Player of the Year and two-time SEC Player of the Year, earned a spot in the US Open singles main draw with her run in the qualifying tournament at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Stoiana makes her first grand slam main draw appearance at the US Open slated for Aug. 30-Sept. 12.
The 2025 Texas A&M graduate won a grueling three-set match Friday to clinch her spot. She topped Yue Yuan of China, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. In her first two rounds of qualifying, she topped Harmony Tan of France, 6-4, 6-3, and Katie Swan of the United Kingdom, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.
The most prolific player in Aggie history, Stoiana logged a 138-20 career record, including a whopping 66-7 on No. 1 courts. She went undefeated in dual action at Mitchell Tennis Center, boasting a 47-0 record. She was a three-time ITA All-American in singles and doubles, a two-time Academic All-American, the 2025 winner of the prestigious Hurd Award and led Texas A&M to its first national championship in 2024.
