COLLEGE STATION – The No. 8 Aggie volleyball team swept Cal Poly to close the Texas A&M Invitational Saturday evening at Reed Arena, 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-23).

Texas A&M (3-2) made it back-to-back sweeps, as it downed Cal Poly (1-1) in three sets behind a dominant offensive showing spearheaded by Natalie Ring’s 15 kills. The outside hitter led an efficient night for the Maroon & White, hitting .387 while the team as a unit was at .333.

The programs traded blows in the opening frame, finding level at 24 and sending the frame to extras. Eliza Sharp put the Aggies up with a kill and an error from Cal Poly sealed the set. The Maroon & White kept their foot on the gas, taking the second in dominant fashion by 10 points. The programs battled in the third, but in similar fashion to the opener, the Aggies stole the set, 25-23, and match, 3-0.

I'm proud of our girls. I think we got better with every single match. And we had to cram a lot of matches in just with the way the preseason works and our RPI reasons. But I think the best thing for this group is to play as much live volleyball as humanly possible. Every time we step on the floor, I'm seeing growth in different people in the entire group, so I'm proud of the way we played.

I think we out-offensed a really good offensive team, which is hard to do, and Cal Poly is a really good volleyball team. I know they don't have a number next to their name and a ranking. They probably should, based on the preseason rankings and what they did last season and the amount of talent that they brought back. So I'm really happy we were able to sustain. I knew we would get pushed by them, and I talked about the response that we would have. And I think you saw that in the first set when all of a sudden they tied it up late and we responded. I think you saw that in the third set and when we were down and we responded. So I'm just really proud of the growth that we've had in that area over these three matches.
