EUGENE - Incoming Aggies Otis Poole and Justin Stewart each advanced to finals Thursday at the World Athletics U20 Championships at Hayward Field.
Poole, competing for Great Britain, cleared 2.14m/7-0.25 meters in the men's high jump qualification round to secure a spot in Saturday's final at 8:10 p.m. CT. After passing on the opening height of 2.00m/6-6.75, Poole cleared 2.05m/6-8.75 on his first attempt before missing his initial try at 2.10m/6-10.75. He responded with a successful clearance on his second attempt at that height before recording a first-jump make at 2.14m/7-0.25 to advance.
Stewart earned his place in Jamaica's mixed 4x100m relay final, running the opening leg for his national team in Thursday's first-round heat. The incoming Aggie posted a 10.97-second split as the lead-off runner, helping Jamaica finish third overall in the heat with a combined time of 42.08. The squad will compete in Saturday's mixed relay final at 8:05 p.m. CT.
