COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M Aggies open SEC play Friday with a road match against the Kentucky Wildcats. First kick at Bell Soccer Complex is slated for 6:30 p.m.
The Aggies are coming off a confidence-boosting 4-0 home victory over SFA with Ireland Churchill and Trinity Buchanan each contributing three points. The Maroon & White head to Kentucky looking to carry that momentum into SEC play as they begin their push to return to the SEC Tournament after missing out last season.
The Maroon & White have received an immediate boost from their freshman class, which has logged 3,502 minutes so far this season, 50.4 percent of A&M’s playing time. Up front, the freshman duo of Churchill and Finley Lacher have combined for 21 points and look to continue their impressive form as the Aggies enter play in one of the nation’s top conferences.
Buchanan paces the team with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Her goals and points tally already eclipsed her totals from 2025 when she led the team in scoring.
The Aggies own an 8-1-2 edge in the series against the Wildcats. Kentucky scored its lone victory with a 3-0 result in the 2025 regular-season finale at Ellis Field. The Aggies outscored Kentucky 14-3 in the four matches prior to that from 2018-21. The first six meetings were decided by one goal or less with three overtime matches, including one draw.
Kentucky is 4-3-0, opening the campaign with a three-game winning streak that included a 6-0 victory over Detroit Mercy. The Wildcats have since suffered losses to Ohio State (2-1), Louisville (2-1) and Bowling Green (2-1). The Blue & White have scored 31 goals through their first seven matches, but have been less consistent defensively, recording just two clean sheets.
