Men’s Golf Advances to Match Play Final of Jackson T. Stephens Cup

By Jackson Osborn

FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M men's golf team wrapped up stroke play at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup on Tuesday, closing with an even-par round to finish 54 holes at 4-under-par 860. The Aggies will carry the No. 2 seed into match play, which begins Wednesday at Fields Ranch East.

Sophomore Shiv Parmar posted his best round of the tournament on Wednesday, a team-best 4-under 68. He ended stroke play at 6-under for three rounds, finishing third overall. Parmar’s third-place individual finish is a career best, besting his previous mark at last season's SEC Championship, where he tied for seventh. Parmar had the top mark on the par 5s all week, finishing with a combined 5-under total.

As a team, Texas A&M finished with 48 birdies during stroke play, the second-best mark in the field and was 4-under on the par 5s. The Aggies finished stroke play in second place at 4-under 860. Texas took the top spot on the leaderboard at 25-under. Rice (2-under) and Utah (25-over) also advanced to match play on Wednesday.

Wheaton Ennis continued his strong week, adding a 2-under 70 in the final round to finish at 5-under and climb into fourth place individually. Ennis earned the Aggies first Eagle of the season on hole seven, a 345-yard par 4. His eagle was one of three during the first three rounds of the event.

Aaron Pounds and Landon Ashcraft each posted a 3-over 75 on Tuesday. Pounds closed at 4-over to finish 12th, while Ashcraft's week left him tied for 24th at 10-over. Kris Kuvaas rounded out the A&M lineup with a 6-over 78, finishing 17th at 6-over for the tournament.

Texas A&M returns to Fields Ranch East on Wednesday for match play, where they will take on Texas for the championship. Tee times are set to begin at 12:31 p.m. CT on Wednesday. Complete matchups and tee times can be found HERE.

Quoting Coach Kortan
“It’s nice to get the season started. Shiv and Wheaton played very well on a very challenging layout. We also had a couple of solid rounds from Pounds and Kuvaas this week. We are excited about our match with Texas tomorrow.  We don’t often play regular season match play. It’s a great opportunity to pick up some more match play experience and see where we are as a team.”
