WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 12 Texas A&M volleyball team dropped its opening game of the Big Ten/SEC Challenge Week to No. 14 Purdue Tuesday evening at Mackey Arena, 3-0 (25-27, 23-25, 20-25).
The Aggies (3-3) battled back-and-forth with the Boilermakers (1-1) in a three-set slug fest that was only separated by nine points. Both programs had their runs in each frame, but it was Purdue who was able to close out the sets to secure the win.
Kirra Musgrove got the offense rolling early on her career night, dishing 17 of her 41 assists in the opening frame. Trading points heading to extras, the Boilermakers strung together the pair they needed to take the first, 25-23.
In similar fashion, the second saw consistent scoring from both teams, as A&M was distributing the ball well pushing five attackers beyond five kills each. The programs found level late at 22, before Purdue forged a two-point gap before a side-out from each team sealed the frame, 25-23.
The Maroon & White didn’t back down in the third, knotting the game on seven occasions as each team hit 12 points. The hosts created a small advantage and were able to hold throughout the remainder to take the set and match, 25-20.
