OMAHA, Neb. – The No. 15 Texas A&M volleyball team downed No. 20 Creighton for its second ranked win of the season Sunday afternoon at D.J. Sokol Arena, 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 23-25, 25-15).
Kyndal Stowers propelled A&M (6-5) past Creighton (5-7) for its sixth victory of the campaign, ripping off 21 kills and matched her career high with three aces. The senior has recorded double-digit kills in five of the six games she has played in this season. She also stood out defensively, logging 15 digs to secure her fourth double-double on the year.
Back-and-forth scoring opened the contest, as the programs found level on four occasions and were knotted at eight. The Maroon & White forged separation behind Gabi Rodriguez at the service line, as she propelled them to a five-point advantage at the midway point, 15-10. The Aggies never let the Bluejays (5-7) get close and an onslaught of offense, paced by Stowers’ seven first-frame kills sealed the set, 25-17.
In similar fashion to the first, the programs traded scoring before the hosts created a three-point gap at the break, 15-12. Creighton built on its lead late, 22-18, but Head Coach Jamie Morrison regrouped with a timeout and A&M came out scoring three-straight forcing the Bluejays to huddle up. The run continued and the Bluejays had no answer as the Aggies doubled their advantage, 26-24.
The third set saw another slugfest with the Bluejays coming out narrowly on top, 25-23. Needing to respond, the Aggies did just that in the fourth. The squads battled to 10, but stints at the service line were the difference for the Maroon & White as runs from Natalie Ring, 4-0, and Rodriguez, 6-0, gave A&M a 10-point advantage in the red zone, 22-12. Points were traded in the clutch, but a kill from freshman Lolufe Adedeji sealed the set, 25-15, and match, 3-1.
