In front of hundreds of family, friends, former players and current students, Hall of Fame Coach R.C. Slocum's statue was unveiled on Friday.

The statue sits on the North end of Kyle Field in the Zone Plaza, adjacent to the All-American monuments near entries 5 and 6.

Slocum, the winningest coach in school history, has a slew of accomplishments to his name. You can read about all of them and get more detail on the statue here

He will be honored during the first quarter of Saturday night's season opener against Missouri State.

I always said this...someday when I meet the big man upstairs--the big head coach--and he says, okay, let's talk about what you did down there. I gave you a hundred-something young men every year for you to lead. I don't care about not going for it on fourth down or any of that. I want to talk about those young men and what you did for them, what kind of influence you were with them. I wanted to have good answers when that time comes. And I think I do.

I was just a little small part of this thing. I had great coaches and I had great players. Great coaches, great players, and a great school, great fans? You're probably going to have some great things happen. And we did. So thank all of you. I couldn't be more honored to accept this award.
