Birmingham – Texas A&M cross country’s Jack Johnston was named SEC Men’s Runner of the Week, the league announced Tuesday
In his debut race of the 2026 season, Johnston led the team to a win while putting the SEC on notice with a Watts Cross Country course record in a time of 14:48.3. Johnston bested the previous record by over 20 seconds held prior by Aggie Eric Casarez. In the Aggie Opener, Johnston led the entire race and recorded a 5:51 2k split.
Johnston’s last weekly award came on Sept. 5, 2023, when he was named SEC Freshman of the Week in his collegiate debut after achieving a 5k time of 15:13.84.
The Maroon & White take on a longer version of the Watts Cross Country Course this weekend at the Texas A&M Invitational, competing in an 8K race while the women will race over 5K on Friday Sept. 11. Gun goes off for the men at 8 a.m followed by the women at 8:35 a.m
