Women’s Swimming & Diving Tops Commodores, Wildcats in Double Dual

NASHVILLE – The Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team won a double dual against the Vanderbilt Commodores, 202-54 and the Kentucky Wildcats, 151-147, on Friday at the Centennial Sportsplex on Vanderbilt's campus. The men's team dropped a 193-107 decision to the Wildcats.

Leading the way for the Aggies with a pair of individual race victories were senior Kaitlyn Owens, junior Ava Whitaker and sophomore Ella McQuinn. Owens, a College Station native, won the 100 backstroke in 53.05 and the 50 free in 22.91, Whitaker, a transfer from Indiana, swept the 100 and 200 butterfly races in 52.83 and 1:56.05, respectively, while McQuinn took gold in the 200 free in 1:46.72 and the 100 free in 49.01. Junior Hannah O'Leary added to the first-place haul with a victory in the 200 breaststroke in 2:12.56.

On the men's side, senior Munzy Kabbara won the 200 IM in 1:46.12. Junior Ben Scholl provided two second-place finishes in the 50 and 100 free finishing in 19.62 and 43.48, respectively. Junior Logan Brown placed second in the 200 breast in 1:57.67 and junior Daniil Pancerevas took second in the 200 free in 1:37.35. Freshman diver Emilio Trevino won the men's platform with a score of 394.43 and placed second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 353.18. Sophomore Nathan Stone won the 3-meter dive with a 362.25 point total.

The Aggies opened the meet with the women winning the 200 medley relay in 1:37.97 with the quartet of Owens, McQuinn, Whitaker and freshman Reagan Sherrard. The men finished third with the foursome of freshman John Simmons, Brown, Scholl and sophomore Ben Sytsma touching in 1:26.49.

The Maroon & White closed out the meet with the women taking first in the 400 free relay in 3:19.30 with the foursome of McQuinn, Owens, Sherrard, and freshman Eloise Williamson. The men placed second with the quartet of Sytsma, Scholl, Brown and freshman Alejandro Michelena finishing in 2:53.15.
