Jan 20, 2026 | Track and Field
BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M track & field's Lily Carlson and Lawson Jacobs were named SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week and Men's Runner of the Week, respectively, following standout performances at the Corky Classic, the league announced Tuesday.
Carlson continued the historic start to her freshman campaign, as she earned her first SEC weekly award after breaking the school record in the women's pole vault. The York Springs, Pennsylvania, native entered in the Aggie all-time ranks at No. 3 in December in her collegiate debut (4.27/14-0), but she raised the bar in Lubbock vaulting 4.41m/14-5.5 to secure the first win of her career. Carlson's mark ranks third in the country this season and first among freshmen.
Jacobs added a pair of wins to his resume at the Corky Classic, crossing the line first in both the 400m and 4x400m to earn the first SEC Men's Runner of the Week nod of his career. He ran the 400m on the opening day of the meet, finishing in 45.37 to enter the Aggie top 12 performers list at No. 7. He followed suit the next day, anchoring the men's 4x400m relay and ensuring the win (3:04.05) with a 45.35 split which was the fastest of any athlete. Jacobs' efforts ranked him second nationally in the 400m and the group holds second in the 4x400m relay in the NCAA this year.
The Aggies return home to host the Ted Nelson Invitational, Jan. 23-24, at the R.A. 'Murray' Fasken '38 Indoor Track & Field facility.
