
Track & Field Hosts Ted Nelson Invitational

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field team returns home as it hosts the Ted Nelson Invitational, Jan. 23-24, at the R.A. 'Murray' Fasken '38 Indoor Track & Field facility with events starting at 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
The Maroon & White return home after putting on a dominant showing at the Corky Classic as the group broke three school records, won seven event titles and recorded seven marks that ranked on the all-time performers list.
Lily Carlson set the tone for the record-breaking weekend, winning her first collegiate pole vault title with a school-record clearance of 4.41m/14-5.5. Her performance garnered the attention of the league office, as the was named SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Staying dominant in the field, Henry Zimmerman added the second program-best mark in the weight throw as he recorded a toss of 21.88m/71-9.5. Rounding out the records was Peter Narumbe in the 1,000m, as he crossed the line in 2:19.88 to secure the second-straight win of his collegiate career.
The Aggies captured another five wins in Lubbock, spearheaded by the SEC Men's Runner of the Week Lawson Jacobs. The sophomore won the 400m with a personal-best time 45.37 and followed that up anchoring the 4x400m relay with the fastest split of the event (45.35), leading the group to a time of time of 3:04.05. The remaining wins over the weekend came from Sofia Yakushina in the women's long jump (6.39m/20-11.75), Magdalena Rauter on the alternate pole vault event (4.06m/13-3.75) who also climbed to No. 10 in the Maroon & White's record book and finally the women's 4x400m relay (3:31.72).
Texas A&M's all-time performers list saw one new addition and one improved rankings, as Morgan Davis climbed from No. 10 to No. 6 in the women's long (6.33m/20-9.25), while Tharushi Karunarathna debuted at No. 11 in the women's 800m (2:08.62).
Texas A&M will compete against 10 teams including Baylor, East Texas A&M, Houston, New Mexico JC, North Texas, Odessa College, Rice, Texas State, Utah State and UTSA.
