FAYETTEVILLE – The No. 12 Texas A&M volleyball team dropped a four-set decision versus Arkansas Sunday afternoon at Barnhill Arena, 3-1 (20-25, 17-25, 25-20, 22-25).
The Aggies (10-7, 3-2 SEC) late surge came up short as they fell on the road to the Razorbacks (9-7, 1-4 SEC). Kyndal Stowers paced the offense and recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 12 digs. Gabi Rodriguez set a career high with 21 digs in the game, her second time eclipsing 20 in a game this season.
Arkansas came out as the aggressors in the game, finding an early 12-8 advantage which prompted a timeout from Head Coach Jamie Morrison. The hosts held their rhythm and took the opening frame, 25-20.
The Razorbacks doubled their lead in the second, 25-17, but a response in the third had the programs level at the 16-point mark thanks to back-to-back aces from Stowers. The deadlock remained at 19, but another spark from the service line courtesy of Brooke Lacewell which included an ace forced an Arkansas timeout, 21-19. The charge continued and a kill from Stowers secured the set for the Aggies, 25-20.
Momentum held for the Maroon & White through the early stages of the fourth, as they forged a four-point gap, 9-5. The teams traded runs, but it was the Razorbacks who had the lead at the break, 15-14. Arkansas increased its gap, and despite a late push from A&M, the Razorback took the frame, 25-22, and match, 3-1.
