COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M track & field signs U20 World Champion Jan-Hendrik Heymans to the 2026-27 roster, head coach Leroy Burrell announced Tuesday.
Hailing from Muldersdrift, South Africa, Heymans joins the Aggies in January. The javelin specialist will compete during the 2027 outdoor season. He enters his collegiate career as the 2026 U20 World Athletics champion. He captured the title with a personal-best throw of 80.50m/264-1, winning by more than six meters over his closest competitor. He is currently ranked 15th among South Africa's all-time men's javelin throwers and No. 74 in the current World Athletics rankings.
"We're thrilled to welcome Jan-Hendrik and his family to Aggieland," Burrell said. "You don't get the chance to sign a U20 world champion very often, and adding him to our throws group is a huge statement about where this program is headed. He's going to help accelerate our success, and with our coaches, facilities and support system, we're going to help accelerate his. We can't wait to see what he does in Maroon & White."
Heymans joins the Texas A&M track & field program ahead of Burrell's first outdoor season. In 2026 Texas A&M’s Zaza Nnamdi claimed the NCAA Outdoor javelin title with a throw of 82.26m/269-10.
