COLUMBIA – The Texas A&M soccer team plays its final road match of the season Thursday when the Aggies battle the Missouri Tigers in an 8 p.m. contest at Walton Stadium.
The match airs on SEC Network with Jessica Charman (play-by-play) and Marion Crowder (analyst) on the call.
Freshman Ireland Churchill enters the contest off her third brace of the season. The Texas A&M forward ranks fourth in the SEC in goals (nine) and points (21). Trinity Buchanan rates sixth in points (18) and eighth in goals (seven).
The Maroon & White continue to lean heavily on freshmen. The rookies have accounted for 14 of the team’s 25 goals and 44.1 percent of the minutes played.
Texas A&M (4-10-1, 0-7-1) has been on the wrong side of the inches in this season’s nip-and-tuck contests. Ten of the squad’s games have been decided by one goal or less with the Maroon & White saddled with a 2-7-1 record in the matches.
The Aggies boast a 20-6-4 edge in the all-time series against Missouri. As SEC sistren Texas A&M owns a 7-1-3 edge in the series, but eight of the 11 matches have been decided by one goal or less. Bella Yakel sealed the victory in the 73rd minute with a penalty kick in last year’s 2-1 victory by the Aggies.
Missouri (4-9-2, 1-6-1) is one wrung ahead of Texas A&M on the SEC ladder. Five of the Tigers’ losses have been decided by one goal, including defeats against Kentucky (2-1) and then-No. 3 Vanderbilt (1-0). The Black & Gold own wins against Murray State (3-1), Northern Illinois (4-0), Southeast Missouri (5-0) and Ole Miss (3-0).
Lana Adams leads Missouri with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Rylie Morse has added nine points on three goals and three assists. Landis Canada, Emily Derucki and Brianna Buels also have three goals.
