FAIRFIELD, Texas –
The No. 7 women’s golf team dominated The Fin with an 11-stroke victory Wednesday to earn its first tournament championship of the 2026-27 campaign at the Freestone Lake & Golf Club.

“Winning is hard in our sport,” Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. “We increased the lead all three rounds, which normally does not happen. This was a pretty spectacular performance by our team and Cata’s round was huge for us today. I am really proud of them for getting better every day because the golf course was difficult. We weren’t as clean as we need to be, but this was a great test to help us get prepared for March, April and May.”

Each round of The Fin, Texas A&M extended its lead until ultimately winning by an 11-stroke margin. The Aggies took down six top-30 programs in the field with a 5-over 869 score during the 54-hole tournament. No. 25 Oklahoma State (+16) finished runner-up, while No. 19 Mississippi State (+22) took home third.

All-American Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio carried the day for the Maroon & White, turning in a 5-under 67 in the final round for the best day of any golfer on the course. The junior finished in solo third at 3-under 213 just two shots back of the co-champions Alicia Bellendir (Mississippi State) and Ava Merrill (Vanderbilt).

2026 ANNIKA Award Finalist Vanessa Borovilos logged her best outing of the season, tying for fourth at 2-under 214. Texas A&M was the only team in the field to have two golfers inside the top five of the individual standings. Freshman Emerie Schartz produced her second top-15 finish, taking home a piece of 13th at 6-over 222.

Louise Reau tied for 18th with Sky Sudberry, who was competing as an individual. The pair both turned in an 8-over 224. Natalie Yen rounded out the golfers by tying for 26th at 11-over 227.

With the victory, Chadwell claimed his 13th tournament championship with the Aggies. He is now tied for second all-time in victories in program history with Jeanne Sutherland (1992-07) and two back from tying the record of 15 with Trelle McCombs (2007-18).

Texas A&M returns to the course October 26-28 to wrap up its fall schedule at the Nanea Invitational. The Nanea Golf Club in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'I, will also be home to the Nanea Cup March 11-14, which the Aggies will take part in. The Nanea Cup is in partnership with the LPGA and will bring together the world’s best 95 Tour athletes and elite collegiate golfers in a first-of-its-kind competition. The other participating universities are Stanford, Texas, Arkansas and UCLA.
