Remembering Two-Sport Standout Toya Jones

Texas A&M Athletics is mourning the sudden loss of Toya Jones, who passed away this week at the age of 49.

Toya was a two-sport star for the Aggies in the late '90s. One of the most decorated high school track athletes in state history, he was an All-American in the sport and a member of A&M's 1997 NCAA Champion 4x100-meter relay team.

Also a letterwinner for Coach R.C. Slocum's football team, he was a member of the Aggies' 1998 Big 12 Championship team. Toya made the game-saving tackle at the end of regulation, stopping a receiver at the 1-yard line on a Hail Mary pass from Kansas State quarterback Michael Bishop. A&M would go on to win the game and the title in double overtime.

Below is a 2016 interview with Toya and Slocum reminiscing about the '98 title game.
