CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Texas A&M rookie Ireland Churchill was selected as the College Soccer News Freshman of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.
For the second consecutive match, Churchill gave the Aggies a 2-0 first-half lead with two goals. Her two strikes in the first 6:49 marked the second-fastest an Aggie notched two goals in a game behind Ashlee Pistorius’s pair in the first six minutes of a 2007 NCAA Tournament win against SFA.
The Eastvale, California, moved into a tie for sixth place for most goals by a Texas A&M freshman with 11. She became the first Aggie to reach double digits in the goals column since Liz Keester in 2013.
Churchill’s 11 goals are tops in the nation among freshmen. Her 25 points rank third for freshmen. She has four braces on the season, including three in SEC play.
