What led to your decision to transfer to Texas A&M?
When I came on my visit, I was impressed by all the resources available, especially for pitching. They had technology and statistics that could track bullpens that I had never seen before. I felt like I would have a great opportunity to improve and develop under the coaching staff here at A&M.
How has it been working with Coach Ford and the pitching staff?
It has been great working with Coach Ford and Coach Alex (Ibarra), who is also our pitching coach. I feel like I have developed my pitches a lot more and learned things about my mechanics that I didn't even realize I was doing.
What has your adjustment to A&M been like so far and has fellow transfer Jordee Wilkins helped the transition process become a little bit easier?
It has definitely been nice coming here with a teammate I played with for three years. Even though it's a completely different environment, having someone I'm already close friends with has made the transition much easier. We've been able to experience everything together, which has really helped with the adjustment.
Who has been the most influential person in your athletic career?
I would say both my mom and dad. My mom traveled with me to all my tournaments, and even though my dad couldn't make every one, he was always there helping me practice. Ever since I was little, he would catch for me in our backyard and took plenty of pitches to the shins! They've both played a huge role in helping me become the player I am today.
What have you heard about the 12th Man and what are your expectations?
I've heard the crowds are definitely louder than what I was used to at Houston, so I'm excited to play in front of fans who come out to support the team. I also remember the bubble machines from when we played here, and I'm really excited for those. The bubbles are great!
What is one part of your game that you’ve worked hard to improve?
We've been focusing a lot on consistency in my pitching. Right now, I'm working on improving and refining the pitches I already have. Once I feel confident with those, I want to start learning and developing new pitches to add to my game.
When you’re in high-intensity pitching situations, what do you focus on, your mechanics or your attitude?
I would say my attitude. Bullpens are where you focus on mechanics, but once you're in a game, you have to trust that you know what you're doing and remember that you're on the mound for a reason. It's about having confidence in yourself and making sure your teammates can feel that confidence when you're out there.
What is a song that gets you instantly hyped before a game?
"Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor. It's actually my walk-up song because my dad loves “Rocky.” When I was little, we would pull up to games with the song playing really loud, and he would always tell me I needed to have the “eye of the tiger,” just like Rocky.
Do you have any pregame superstitions?
I always have to get a fun drink before games. Usually, it's an energy drink, but if not, I'll grab something from Starbucks. It's become part of my pregame routine.
If you could design a game uniform, what would it look like?
I really like the all-maroon uniforms we have with the A&M logo, but I'm also a big fan of our throwback jerseys. I think combining the all-maroon look with the throwback script would make a really cool uniform.
