ATHENS – The Texas A&M Aggies were doomed by two second half Georgia goals in Friday’s 2-1 loss to the Bulldogs at Turner Soccer Complex.
The Aggies carried a 1-0 lead into the intermission on the back of a Ciara Jade Mitchell goal in the 40th minute. She took advantage of bad Georgia backpass and unleashed a low bouncing shot inside the right post.
The first half was mostly a battle through the midfield. Texas A&M held a 7-5 advantage in shots, while Georgia took all four corner kicks in the opening stanza.
Georgia (4-3-5, 1-1-3 SEC) took advantage of a couple set pieces in the second half. The Bulldogs scored on a penalty kick in the 65th minute and capitalized on an inability to clear a free kick in the 68th minute.
The final offensive tally had the shots even and Texas A&M (4-8-0, 0-5-0 SEC) owning a 7-5 advantage in shots-on-goal. Geogia owned a 7-2 margin in corner kicks.

40’ | After a bad pass back from a Georgia midfielder following a center stripe header by Lucy Landherr, Ciara Jade Mitchell collected the loose ball 30 yards out. She crossed over the Bulldogs’ center back twice before unleashing a right-footer from 20 yards out, threading the ball between a diving keeper and the right post. A&M 1, UGA 0.
65’ | Kiera Staude converted on a penalty kick after a handball was deemed in the box. A&M 1, UGA 1.
68’ | After the Aggies were unable to clear a booming free kick from the defensive end by the Geogia keeper, Sage Glover looped a volley from 16 yards out into the right upper 90. A&M 1, UGA 2.
