COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M kicker David Olano was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for week five, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Olano, a 5th year kicker from Naperville, Ill., earned his first career player of the week honor after connecting on a pair of 50+ yard field goals and making all four PATs in Texas A&M’s win over Arkansas.
Olano’s first field goal of the night was a career-long 57-yarder as time expired in the first half. That kick was the longest by an Aggie kicker since Terrence Kitchens’ 62-yarder vs. Southern Miss on September 25, 1999. It was also the ninth-longest made field goal in program history. His second field goal of the night was from exactly 50 yards, giving him three 50-yard field goals on the season.
This season, Olano is 7-for-7 on field goals and the first Aggie kicker to start a season 7-for-7 since Todd Pegram made his first 12 attempts in 2004.
Olano and the Aggies will be on the road Saturday when they travel to Missouri. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m., with the game being broadcast on ABC.
