STARKVILLE – The Texas A&M Aggies returns to the road Friday, traveling to MSU Soccer Complex for a 7 p.m. contest against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Through five SEC matches, Texas A&M has already surpassed its conference goal total from all last season. The early offensive production marks a step forward for the Aggies in league play. Ireland Churchill has a pair of SEC goals while Trinity Buchanan, Ciara Jade Mitchell and Morgan Landry have one apiece.
Buchanan and Churchill are tied for fifth on the SEC leaderboard for goals this season with seven apiece. Buchanan paces the team with 17 points and Churchill is one back with 16.
Last time out, the Aggies (4-8-0, 0-5-0 SEC) dropped a 2-1 decision at Georgia after taking a 1-0 advantage into halftime courtesy of Mitchell, who capitalized on a Bulldogs mistake. Georgia responded with two goals in quick succession in the second half, which proved enough to secure all three points. It marked the third time this season the Aggies have scored first but were unable to hold on to the lead.
The Aggies own a 10-4-0 edge in the series, with all the meetings coming since Texas A&M joined the SEC prior to the 2012 season. Ol’ Sarge’s charges won the first nine matches, outscoring the Bulldogs 29-3 with six shutouts during the stretch. Mississippi State has since won four of the last five meetings, including a 2-0 victory in the most recent matchup in 2024. Seven of the last 10 contests have been decided by one goal.
The Bulldogs enter the matchup with a 7-1-4 overall record and an undefeated 1-0-4 mark in SEC play. Mississippi State is collected seven points through five conference matchdays, earning their lone league victory in a 4-1 win at Ole Miss before posting draws against Florida (2-2), at No. 9 Tennessee (0-0), at Kentucky (0-0) and against No. 11 South Carolina (0-0).
Hailey Johnson and Laila Murillo spearhead the attack with five goals apiece, while Johnson has also contributed three assists. The Bulldogs have recorded three consecutive scoreless draws, highlighting both their defensive strength and recent struggles to produce offensively.
