Wheaton Ennis Named SEC Golfer of the Week

By Kelly Shipp

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M’s Wheaton Ennis was named the SEC Golfer of the Week after winning his first individual collegiate title at the Fighting Irish Classic, the league office announced Wednesday.

Ennis, a native of Eagle, Idaho, earned his first career SEC Golfer of the Week honor following an impressive outing at the Fighting Irish Classic in South Bend, Ind. Ennis was one of eight golfers to shoot under par in the 54-hole event, which featured 81 participants and 14 teams. In the three-round event, Ennis shot a 7-under-par 203, winning the title by two strokes.

In both the first and third rounds, he shot a 3-under 67, and in round two he shot a 1-under 69. He was one of two golfers at the event to shoot under par for all three rounds.

Ennis led the field on par 4s with a combined total of 5-under, averaging 3.86 strokes on the par 4s. He totaled 11 birdies, tied for the 10th most in the field. His strong three rounds helped the Aggies finish second in the event.

Ennis and the Texas A&M men’s golf team will be back on the greens Oct. 19-21 in Granbury, Texas, when they compete in the inaugural Abilene Christian Intercollegiate at the Halbert National Golf Course.
