LOXELY, Ala. – The No. 12 Texas A&M men’s golf team finished third at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational on Sunday at Steelwood Country Club, closing out its fall season with a 30-under 834.

The Aggies shot rounds of 11-under 277, 8-under 280 and 11-under 277 in the 15-team event, hosted by South Alabama. No. 1 Auburn won at 42-under 822, and Georgia Tech was second at 40-under 824. Texas A&M finished 11 strokes ahead of Rutgers and Mississippi State, who tied for fourth at 19-under.

Aaron Pounds led the Aggies, finishing second individually at 14-under 202 (65-69-68). The senior’s opening 65 tied his career low and was the Aggies’ best round of the opening day. His 54-hole total is a career best, topping the 204 he shot at the Fighting Illini Invitational in September. Only Georgia Tech’s Albert Hansson, at 20-under, finished ahead of him.

Kris Kuvaas made the biggest move of the final day. The senior fired a 5-under 67, his best round of the season, to climb 25 spots from a tie for 38th to a tie for 13th at 6-under 210 (71-72-67). The 210 is also a season low for his 54-hole total, and his finish is his second-best of the fall behind a fifth-place showing at Abilene Christian.

Landon Ashcraft was under par in all three rounds (71-70-71) to finish tied for 25th at 4-under 212. The freshman, who has been in the lineup for all five team events this fall, lowered his season-best 54-hole score by two strokes.

Wheaton Ennis (70-71-72) finished tied for 27th at 3-under 213, shooting par or better in all three rounds. Shiv Parmar (72-70-71) also tied for 27th at 3-under 213, going under par in each of his final two rounds.

The Steelwood Collegiate Invitational was the sixth and final event of the fall for the Aggies, who opened the season with a team title at the Abilene Christian Intercollegiate. They return to action Feb. 1-2 at the Arizona N.I.T.
