COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M’s Aaron Pounds was named the SEC Golfer of the Week for the second consecutive week following his second-place finish at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, the league announced Wednesday.
This is Pounds’ fourth career SEC Golfer of the Week honor and the third honor for the Aggies this season. The Aggies’ three SEC Golfer of the Week honors this season are the most in a single season for Texas A&M since earning three in the 2022-23 season.
Pounds concluded the fall portion of the Aggies' schedule with a 14-under par 202 at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational. Pounds' 202 strokes set a new career low for the senior, beating his previous best of 204 set earlier this season. His 14-under score is also tied for the 9th-lowest 54-hole score in program history.
Pounds opened the event by shooting a 65 in round one, tying a career-low 18-hole round set last season. He followed the strong opening round with two additional rounds under par after shooting a 69 in round two and a 68 in round three. Pounds closed out the fall season with eight consecutive rounds under par.
He earned his third eagle of the season in the second round of the Steelwood Collegiate, while also tying for the second-most birdies at the event with 20, giving him a team-best 63 this fall.
This is the first time in Pounds’ career that he has earned back-to-back top 2 finishes after winning the ACU Intercollegiate last week.
Pounds’ strong performance helped Texas A&M finish third in the event, giving the Aggies four top-three finishes in the fall, the most in the fall portion of the season since 1992.
The Aggies will be back on the course in 2027, when they travel to Tucson, Ariz. On Feb. 1-2 for the Arizona N.I.T.
