AUGUSTA, Ga. – Texas A&M's Tyler White has been named to the Ray Guy Award Midseason Watch List, the Augusta Sports Council announced Thursday. The award is presented annually to the nation's top punter.
White is averaging 49.4 yards per punt, ranking second nationally and leading the SEC. The senior has recorded 17 punts of 50-plus yards on 29 attempts, including a career-long 72-yard punt. He has recorded multiple punts of 50-plus yards in four games this season, including a career-high six against LSU. White has also placed 10 punts inside the 20-yard line.
The Southlake, Texas, native has been named to the weekly Ray Guy Award "Ray's 8" three times this season and earned Ray Guy Punter of the Week honors following his performance against Kentucky in Week 4.
The Ray Guy Award Committee will select 10 semifinalists, who will be announced Nov. 13. Three finalists will then be selected by a national voting body comprised of Football Bowl Subdivision sports information directors, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners. The voting body will cast ballots again following the announcement of the finalists to determine the nation's top punter. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 11.
About the Ray Guy Award
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thomson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner are net punting average, percentage of punts inside the 20-yard line, and percentage of punts not returned, with particular emphasis placed on net average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline, and have a positive impact on the team's success.
