Aggies Close Out SEC Championships with Strong Day

KNOXVILLE – Texas A&M advanced 12 individuals to finals and logged four top eight finishes on the final day of the 2026 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center on the University of Tennessee campus.
It was the team's highest single-0day finalists total of the SEC meet as the Aggies racked up more than 40 individual finalists at the conference championships. In the team standings, the Aggie women placed ninth with 464 points and the men's squad finished ninth with 503.5.
The Aggie women closed out the meet with a flourish with a strong performance in the 400 freestyle relay. The foursome of sophomore Ella McQuinn, fifth-year senior Kaitlyn Owens and freshmen Reagan Sherrard and Eloise Williamson posted a season-best and NCAA provisional cut of 3:14.36 while winning its heat and placing sixth overall. McQuinn set the tone with an opening 100 free leg of 47.99, which was a lifetime best. The Aggies lopped over 2.5 seconds off their previous season best.
The men's 400 free relay team of sophomore Ben Sytsma, junior Ben Scholl, junior Logan Brown and freshman Alejandro Michelena placed ninth in 2:50.01.
Earlier in the evening session, the Aggie men scored big points in the 200 IM with four swimmers making it back for finals. Leading the way was Brown, who placed fifth in 1:41.80, and fifth-year senior Munzy Kabbara with an eighth-place effort in 1:44.07. Freshman AJ Robinson and junior Daniil Pancerevas chipped in 20th and 24th place finishes, respectively, to bring Maroon & White's point total of 53 in the event.
Sophomore transfer Gabby Filzen placed fifth in the women's platform dive with a score of 277.30 while producing 50-plus point totals on four of five dives. Junior teammate Chloe McKnight added a 14th place finish with a score of 228.35.
Junior Hannah O'Leary shined in the women's 200 IM as she logged her lifetime best with a time of 1:59.06 while placing fourth in the consolation final (12th overall). In the bonus final, junior Ava Whitaker was also fourth (20th) with a time of 1:59.84 after posting a lifetime best of 1:59.40 in the prelims.
McQuinn took second in the consolation final of the women's 100 freestyle with a then-lifetime best 48.38 clocking.
Sytsma won the men's 100 freestyle bonus final in 42.49 (17th), while Scholl was right behind in third place (19th) in 42.64.
Sophomore Macy Lewis placed 22nd in the women's 200 backstroke in 1:56.88.
