No. 4 Aggies Earn Road Victory Over Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE – The No. 4 Texas A&M women's tennis team secured a hard-fought victory over Vanderbilt Friday afternoon at the Currey Tennis Center, 5-2.
Texas A&M (10-2, 2-0) claimed the doubles point on courts 2 and 3 to take the lead, 1-0. The Maroon & White struck first on court 2, where Violeta Martinez/Ilinca Amariei defeated No. 10 Valeri Ray/Bridget Stammel, 6-3. The Aggies followed with another strong showing on court 3 as Daria Smetannikov/Lexington Reed topped No. 64 Erin Pearce/Mia Yamakita, 6-3, to clinch the point. The match on court 1, featuring No. 15 Mia Kupres/Lucciana Perez and No. 2 Celia-Belle Mohr/Sophia Webster was left unfinished.
Singles play began on court 1, where No. 34 Mohr defeated No. 35 Kupres, 6-0, 6-0, to put Vanderbilt on the board. Texas A&M responded on court 5 where Martinez earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over No. 69 Yamakita to put the Aggies back ahead.
No. 5 Perez pushed the advantage further on court 2, battling past No. 42 Stammel in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Amariei clinched the match for the Maroon & White on court 3, defeating No. 15 Ray, 7-6(2), 1-6, 6-3.
After the result was decided, Vanderbilt collected one more win on court 6 as Pearce edged out No. 125 Smetannikov, 6-3, 7-6(4), 2-6. Finally, Reed added another point for the Aggies on court 4, defeating Trinetra Vijayakumar 6-3, 6-7(8), 7-5, to make the final score 5-2.
