Aggies Topple No. 21 Alabama, 72-69
Feb 08, 2026 | Women's Basketball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – A blocked shot by Lauren Ware at the buzzer sealed the Texas A&M women's basketball team's 72-69 victory over the No. 21 Alabama Crimson Tide Sunday evening inside Reed Arena.
After Ny'Ceara Pryor drained a pair of free throws to inflate the Aggies cushion to 72-69 with six seconds remaining in the game, Alabama (20-5, 6-5 SEC) scurried up the court on its last possession. The Tide's Diana Collins jacked up a 3-point attempt from 23-feet, but Ware swatted it into the seats as the buzzer sounded to seal the deal.
Pryor paced Texas A&M (9-10, 2-8 SEC) with another stat sheet-stuffing performance, logging 20 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four assists. Ware finished with 13 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. Fatmata Janneh recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
In the tight contest, the Aggies benefited from a season-low seven turnovers in the contest. Another key to the victory was seven offensive boards in the fourth quarter, including four by Janneh.
Ware jumpstarted the Aggie offense, recording six points as the Maroon & White claimed a 10-6 advantage midway through the first quarter. A&M's defense held Alabama scoreless in the last 2:10 of the period to take a 14-12 advantage into the first break.
The Maroon & White exploded in the second quarter with 20 points, led by Pryor and Janneh who recorded five points apiece as the Aggies took their largest lead of the half, 34-29, entering the break. Ware led Texas A&M with 10 points in the opening quarters shooting 5-of-7 (71.4%) from the field.
The Crimson Tide claimed their first lead of the game, 44-42, at the 3:39 mark of the third quarter, following a 15-8 surge. Texas A&M nosed ahead, 53-51 on a Jordan Webster 3-pointer with 18 seconds left in the quarter, but it was answered with a buzzer beater from bonus land by Ta'Mia Scott as Alabama took a 54-53 advantage into the fourth quarter.
An old-fashioned 3-pointer by Jessica Timmons gave the Tide a four-point edge out of the break, but the Aggies answered with a 10-0 run to pull ahead 63-57 with six minutes remaining. The Timmons show continued for Alabama, as she scored the next seven points. Her flurry gave the Tide its last lead of the game, 64-63 with 4:11 left.
A pair of Salese Blow free throws put the Maroon & White up, 67-65, with 3:03 remaining. There was a two-minute drought before a Pryor jumper widened the margin to four points. Alabama shaved the deficit to one point on a Karly Weathers layup with seven seconds on the clock before Pryor knocked down her two from the charity stripe.
The Aggies hit the road for Thursday's 5:30 p.m. game against the No. 16 Kentucky Wildcats at Memorial Coliseum. The contest airs on SEC Network.
